Somewhere along the line I got the phrase wrong.

Telling children, advising friends, “don’t get your hopes up”. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. Don’t get ahead of yourself.

Does that ease the pain when we fall short? Soften the blow when things don’t work out?

I no longer subscribe.

Do get your hopes up.

Can I believe I’m the kind of person that can have my wish? What will I feel like when I become that person? Can I grant myself permission to go ahead and be that person?

To be congruent with my request, in alignment with the energy of my wish. Not in attachment to the outcome, but to it’s possibility. A refreshing place from which to ask and act, trusting the answer is already yes.

Messages no longer mixed, future now present, wish into reality.

I do get my hopes up now. Anything I ask for is possible.

I already am it. I already have it.

The Process

Boredom often a catalyst for creativity… 0n a 7-hour plane ride with my 6-yr old, searching the seat-back screen for something to occupy us, we found Tetris. It’s been close to 30 years since I’ve played, but it’s movements, controls and sounds were quickly back to me like riding a bike. Here I begin painting the outline of the game.

Like with expanding beliefs, each time I added a new and often brighter color to the Tetris mix, several of the original colors - and limiting beliefs - in my palette no longer fit. I had to rework the colors multiple times to get it right - optimism an active process and practice.

The configuration of blocks I painted are based off a round of Tetris I recently played. During that game, I noticed my discomfort as the blocks started to stack high on the right. I tried making the best of the blocks given, turning and adjusting them while I waited for what I hoped - what I began to trust - was coming next.

Mimicking the framing technique of my most recent work, I chose to paint this wooden frame to match it’s contents.
