Change of Plans

Recently inspired by my son learning to say his longest word yet, I set out to capture my ever-evolving view of our 2020 calendar.

“We once were best friends. I'd fill your tidy daily nooks with plans and wishes and goals. I thrived on your structure, your clear path forward, your daily march towards productivity and imagined success. And then something changed.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You were erased, time stopped, our pace forever altered. I mourned you at first, the cancellation of my life of busy, my self-imposed definitions of productivity and value, of progress.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Until one day, amidst bored stillness, I came to treasure your empty corners, your clean slate, the keys to time suddenly placed in hand - to use, to fill, or to not. I stopped looking to you to define my days, and source my checkmarks. I started relishing to-don'ts over to-do's.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But now, old friend, you poke your head out, with your alluring pastel notes, with events and plans and obligations I currently cower from. There is no returning to our kinship, nor may we continue our separation, but for now, let me rest a while longer. Before you fill my pages and speed up time, before I'm required to be anywhere but home. For today, let me fill you with nothing but my reminder to find something to sing about.”

From Worry to Flurry

How often I worry about little things, the big things and especially the things I can not control.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I gear up, to shield myself from the rain, from pain, from challenges and difficulties, as if worrying will prohibit them from happening.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But what if this worry impedes what’s actually intended for me? Abundance, a flurry of positive energy trying to break through, waiting to land.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Perhaps now I'll step out, let down my armor of worry, and become ready to receive. To expand my capacity for experiencing positive energy. To begin the shift from worry to flurry.

So, Why Gnomes?

I’ve now completed my 6th painting featuring a gnome, leading me to question myself, so why gnomes? Several reasons pop into mind, starting from a childhood television favorite, David the Gnome. While tiny in stature, he could overcome any challenge or obstacle, all within a clean 28 minutes of air time.

To me, the gnome is everyone. While his white hair denotes age, to me he is ageless, wise but youthful, ready to participate and play in the evolving scenes in which he’s placed.

He is small in height, perhaps underestimated, but always mighty in capacity. He is ever curious, willing to explore, to grow in thought and capabilities.

He is delightfully rotund, his waistline slightly increasing with each new piece, alongside his confidence and comfort in his own skin. He is human, without being of this world.

He is a creature of the garden, of nature, at one with his environment - indoor or out. His senses keen and alive, listening and absorbing, before gently taking action.

New Scarves Launching Soon!

I started this scarf journey last year out of curiosity, whimsy and a strong wish to see my paintings transformed into luxurious silk. 9 scarves later, and I can’t get enough!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So excited to share I’ll be releasing two new styles very soon, AND bringing back a sold-out favorite. Stay tuned via Instagram and my newsletter!

Featured above, some favorite, sold-out styles from the past. Thank you for your support, for wearing these scarves, gifting them, and even framing them for your own walls!

Art Exploration at Crystal Bridges

This month I had the opportunity to visit Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art while en route to deliver a painting to its new home. It was such a magical visit, filled with inspiration, color, nature and excitingly calm stillness. I highly recommend a trip to check it out!

Thinking outside the Pumpkin

Forget carving, we’ve opted for color instead! Last week my son and I spared no paints when decorating pumpkins for our home. For your own project, I recommend using sample-sized paint pots found at Home Depot or Lowes, and then, once dry, spraying with a varnish like ModPodge.

Sending you color, whimsy, and a big refreshing exhale this Fall season!

About

My name is Mione Plant and I'm an artist, visual storyteller, and formerly an engineer for 10 years. My pursuit to follow my curiosities and creativity has joyfully led me to painting.

I draw inspiration from my joys of childhood, my son's childhood, and even a child-like perspective as an adult. I use whimsical imagery to convey my journey, along with gentle and approachable reminders to myself, to continually return to my center, to my truth, to choose hope over fear.

In each painting, I love to create beautifully mathematic combinations - celebrating my path from engineer to artist by mixing right brain with left, playfulness with precision, joy with geometry, whimsy with substance.

I hope to bring joy through my artwork, but maybe even more importantly, to bring connection, to acknowledge our shared journey. The trials we experience and the beauty and magic of overcoming them; of facing fears and coming out on the other side; of pausing, stopping, slowing down to recognize beauty and magic all around us.
