A New Year, a Slower Me

Chapultepec Botanical Garden in Mexico City

I recently learned of the concept of 'slowing down to speed up', and it shot to the top of my resolutions. The idea that if I actually slow down to take time for the things that are beneficial for me and my family - that in the end, I might actually accomplish more. This is not an intuitive concept to me, yet. But I'm committed to trying.

I took a long weekend trip to Mexico City in December, and took the remainder of the month to simply rest at home. I quickly discovered how tired I was - that 2019 was an epic year of striving and pushing to reach my goals for my first year as a full-time artist. I'm so proud of what I accomplished, through your help and support. I want to do all that hard work again this year, but with a different, and slower mentality. Reserving time to nurture my well being, without apology.

I hope your 2020 brings you energizing rest, as we slow down to speed up.

“The Other Side of Fear”

What does it look like when a plan doesn't pan out? After weeks of working on a new piece, I decided to paint over it in an act of defiance that was refreshingly freeing. Opting for play over perfection.

Each time I walk by, I spin a pinwheel, and remind myself that its ok, and sometimes beneficial, to make mistakes. That there's still beauty ahead, magic waiting on the other side of fear.

In the News!

So grateful for the coverage I received over the Holidays, and the opportunity to share my story.

I’ve been Nominated!

Holy crap, I've been nominated for a Fashion Group International Rising Star Award! I was thinking recently that setting such an ambitious goal last year, of someday having my art on an Hermes scarf, has pushed me to trying new things in pursuit of that goal - like making my own scarves. I'm freaking out that my art-turned-fashion is being recognized by such a legit group! Thank you to Team Tootsies for your support in sharing my work!

A 79-year old Ballerina and a 90-year old Artist!

“We don’t stop playing because we grow old.
We grow old because we stop playing.”

Getting to meet and create this video with a fellow artist, 54 years my senior, was incredible and legit inspiring. The Senior Source had the genius idea to pair artists, dancers, musicians and activists together with a senior citizen who’s been rocking it in their field for decades. Alongside meeting artist Walter (age 90!), I’m blown away seeing a 79 year old ballerina. We all have plenty of life and creativity to give, and it is never too late to begin something new and follow our curiosities!

Brain Power

This month has been about creatively trying new things, especially ones that scare me - like drawing! (I love painting, but drawing is always the scary part of each painting). Thanks to an artist friends', suggestion, I started working through "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain", and the results are surprising me!

It's been so fun to share the projects with you on my Instagram stories. Thanks for your encouragement, and especially for those of you who are trying it alongside with me!

Frame of Mind

Love these fun ideas to frame a vibrant scarf for a bold but playful statement! Keep a look out later this month for a new scarf launching from my studio!
